This partnership marks a significant step in fostering cultural, spiritual, and educational growth within our community. CMKC, renowned for its commitment to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Sanathana Dharma, offers a variety of programs and events that cater to individuals of all ages.

A Legacy of Service: About CMKC

Chinmaya Mission Kansas City was founded in August 2009 with a mission to serve the Greater Kansas City community by teaching values to children and imparting the knowledge of Hindu scriptures to people of all ages. Every Sunday morning, CMKC offers Bala Vihar and language classes for children, as well as satsangs for adults, at a local middle school. The teachers for Bala Vihar and language classes are dedicated volunteers who use a Mission-wide curriculum to educate the children. Additionally, many volunteers contribute their time and efforts to support various activities within the mission, ensuring the smooth running of all programs and events.

Chinmaya Bala Vihar: Nurturing Young Minds

One of the cornerstone programs of CMKC is the Chinmaya Bala Vihar. This cultural and spiritual value-based education program is designed for children from PreK to Grade 12. Held every Sunday, Bala Vihar aims to impart spiritual and cultural education, fostering an understanding and appreciation of Sanathana Dharma through scriptural stories, games, and activities. The program provides a nurturing environment where children can learn and grow while embracing their cultural roots.

Bike MS is more than just a cycling event; it’s a movement to fight multiple sclerosis, a disease that affects millions worldwide. Each year, thousands of riders from across the nation come together to raise funds and awareness, demonstrating extraordinary commitment and resilience. This year, we are proud to highlight the significant participation from the Indian community in Kansas City, making a powerful impact through both riding and volunteering.

The Desi Contingent: Grit and Guts in Action

The Bike MS 2024 Kansas City event challenges participants with a grueling two-day ride covering 103 miles on the first day and 70 miles on the second. This year, the Indian community has shown incredible solidarity and determination, with a large contingent stepping up to take on this demanding journey.

Completing 173 miles over two days is no small feat. It demands not only physical endurance but also immense mental fortitude. Riders push through fatigue, muscle aches, and the unpredictability of weather, all fueled by a greater purpose. The desi participants exemplify these qualities, showcasing the best of our community’s spirit and commitment to fighting for a world free of MS.

A special mention must be made here. Atul Agarwal has emerged as the Guru of Desi Biking in the Kansas City who has been biking for almost 20 years – his first Bike MS was in 2003 and has been inspiring generations of bicyclists in the Kansas City area.

08/18 – Join Us for the Joyous Hindola Utsav at the Hindu Temple & Cultural Center of Kansas City

The Hindu Temple & Cultural Center of Kansas City, in collaboration with the Vaishnav Satsang Samaj of Kansas City, invites you to join the joyous celebration of Hindola on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Hindola Utsav, or the Hindola Festival, is a cherished Hindu tradition that occurs during the monsoon season, typically between July and August. This festival celebrates the deep love and devotion for Lord Krishna, symbolized by the ritual of gently swinging the Lord on a beautifully decorated swing. Originating in Vrindavan 5,000 years ago, the tradition was born from the Gopis’ devotion, as they would lovingly swing Lord Krishna to express their adoration.

The event will begin with Darshan at 4:30 PM, followed by the Mangala Aarthi at 6:30 PM. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the Puja and experience the divine joy of this ancient tradition. Prasad will be served from 7:00 PM onwards.

Absolutely a Golden Opportunity for Actors in the Desi Community!

THEATRE IN THE PARK (TIP), one of the nation’s largest community theatres, is searching for two performers for their upcoming production of DISENCHANTED.  DISENCHANTED is an ADULT take on what happens AFTER the happily ever after.  This production, rated PG-17, is a hilarious romp through many princess stories that is SURE to keep the audience laughing throughout.  As TIP’s casting policy states, we strive to be culturally conscious as it pertains to social and historical content.  Therefore for DISNECHANTED we will only produce the show if the proper performers are found for each princess.

After our open call we are looking for two additional performers to join our cast.

Princess Badroulbadour

Originally from the South-Asian-turned-Middle-Eastern Aladdin sagas, this sultan’s daughter has had enough of being secondary in her own tale. Misogyny begone! It’s a whole new world and this independent and puckish princess is taking her story back! Actress should be South-Asian or Middle Eastern.

The Princess Who Kissed The Frog

Having been left out of the kingdom for decades, this Black princess is here to claim her throne and celebrate inclusivity and diversity in fairy tales. Confident; clever with a turn of phrase, loves a funny pop culture reference. Wonderfully witty; joyous. Actress should be Black.

Rehearsals run from August 25th through September 27th typically from Sunday – Thursday in the evenings.  Disenchanted performs October 4th through October 20th with 11 public performances.  Rehearsals and Performances take place at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center at 8788 Metcalf.
