For over three decades, ABKC Sangam has kept the spirit of Durga Puja alive in the heart of the Midwest. This October, the organization returns to the Camelot Ballroom in Overland Park for Sangam Durgotsab 2026—a three-day celebration that draws families from across Kansas City, Wichita, Topeka, and beyond. What began as a small community gathering in 1995 has blossomed into the largest Bengali festival of the year in Kansas, a testament to the enduring devotion and cultural pride of the region’s Bengali diaspora. As President Arup Majumdar shares in his opening remarks, organizing Durga Puja is far more than a responsibility—it is a privilege and an opportunity to offer seva (selfless service) at Maa Durga’s divine feet.
The inauguration on Friday, October 16th sets a profound and joyful tone for the festival. For the first time in the celebration’s history, the ceremony will open with renditions of both the American and Indian national anthems, honoring the dual heritage of the community. A graceful lighting of the diya by the chief guest marks the auspicious beginning, followed by soulful group music performances that establish the devotional atmosphere. As evening falls, the festival transforms into a vibrant celebration with Navratri festivities—energetic garba and dandiya performances by community members fill the air with music and movement. The evening culminates with a spectacular musical performance by Manasi Ghosh, the celebrated Indian Idol winner known for her powerful stage presence and captivating voice.
