For those you who attended the show and saw the girls (read American) & Samarpita mesmerized us you know there was only one word to explain the whole show : OUTSTANDING
in another word: SPLENDID
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have to first of all say I was so glad to take my mom to experience an authentic program and myself was entralled that the girls performing were all Americans and doing an OUTSTANDING job. The perfection in their arm movements/ expressions were perfect. Samarpita was amazing by being in every dance - remember they were different from the previous one..
The program started with earnesty doing Shiva Tandavam ( I can't remember the exact name) and then Ganesh - Parvati & Shiva - this one is a solo by Samarpita and the last one was Tillana - all the girls did splendidly. They were so perfect it brought tears to my eyes for them to embrace the meaning of every word and dance so well was really a feast to the eye. Each dance in the 1st half was at-least 15 min. with many-many expressions and steps - the authentic Kuchipudi with Bharatnatyam style of dance.
The 2nd half apty called - "Colors of India" and started with Bihu - there were 6-8 girls all in traditional Mekhla-Chaddar and looking so beautiful. This brought smiles to my mom and my faces as Bihu is not an easy dance - which I had tried couple of times in school and stuck with Rajasthani instead :-). Every one of the dances from Bihu, Tummi (Tamil/Kerala- dance from olden days no musical instruments only clapping), Rajasthani ( 2 dances) the serpent one by three beautiful girls / awesome costumes every one of them they did unbelievable authentic moves bending over 180 degrees backwards and pulling a one dollar bill from a bottle and twisting the body entirely all three girls were especially amazing - I can't say enough - they were the serpant dancers and this is an authentic Rajasthani Folk dance still performed in that state.
Marathi - Lavani - Samarpita- solo - you could feel the feelings for the song while the dancer performed. Then we reached the beautiful & colorful state of Punjab. All the girls - in bright colorful - authentic Punjabi suits - bright duppattas and danced away - they did it so well at the end the audience was constantly clapping - for this troop of 12 girls and the amazing Samapita herself this is a very proud accomplishment to do everything perfectly and so easily.. Their last dance was the another authentic Dandiya with complex moves that Samapita's easy and concise description made us understand that Durga mata did Dandiya type of moves to overpower Mahishsur which is where this dance comes from.
Dance in the purest form I guess has no language barrier, if you put your heart into it the audience/ who ever watching it can feel it. When the girls were introduced each bowed and did a Namaste - all the every day names of Americans came up but they were the traditional Gujrati wear, with a bindi and smiling - truly awesome and a 5-star performance!
